Hello Everyone,
Very sorry about BB not being ready. We will use blogging instead of BB Discussion Board.
For starters, I would like everyone to introduce themselves and give us any information you would like to share about your lives.
I am your instructor, Kevin Splichal. I am originally from Munden, KS. I graduated from FHSU with my undergraduate degree in Secondary Social Studies, masters degree from FHSU in Educational Administration, and my Educational Specialist degree from FHSU. I am currently attending KSU for my doctorate. I have three wonderful children. Braden is 17, Sidney is 15, and Konnor is 12. I look forward to working with you.
My name is Amy Pagenkopf. I live near Lost Springs, KS and have been taking virtual classes through FHSU for four years to finish my elementary education degree. I have been married for 18 years and have two boys: Braden 16 and Garhett 12... so I am going to have football games three nights a week this fall!!! I LOVE FOOTBALL. I also love gardening, hunting, fishing, camping, crochet and going to thrift stores!!! I will be taking 7 hours this fall, 10 in the spring and then student teach next fall - so there's finally light at the end of the tunnel. I currently work with high school kids as a para educator and have worked off and on as a para for 10 years. I love working with kids of all ages, especially my sped kids who need a little extra in the way of kind words and a trusting bond with an adult. I look forward to working with all of you in this class.
ReplyDeleteHi Amy!! Good to "see" you again!
DeleteDitto.....It is good to "see" you again Amy P! And good to "see" you again too Amy K!!
DeleteMy name is Stacie Adams. I am a stay-at-home mom (among a million other things) for two boys (4 and 7). I live in Perry, Ks (just north of Lawrence). We are very active in our church and community. I am starting the second year of my ECU degree. I originally (over a decade ago) graduated from KU with a bachelors in history. I love working on my house, in my yard, reading (which I put on hiatus during school) and spending time with my family.
ReplyDeleteWow! You sound like you have a very exciting life. A history degree from KU sounds like a very interesting thing, I know many people who have tried and failed at that. Best of luck to you in this class!
DeleteHello Everyone,
ReplyDeleteI am Jackie Gonzales. I am 29 years old and was born and raised in Arkansas City, KS. I attended Barton County Community College from 2001-2003, where I earned my associates degree. In 2006 I moved to Ulysses with my husband, Joe, who is a PE Teacher and the head High School Wrestling Coach. We have one daughter, Kyndol, who will be turning 3 next month, and we will be welcoming a baby boy, Kyler Joseph, in late October. Yep! I am 31 weeks pregnant and am feeling GREAT (aside from the 100+ degree heat :)
I have worked in banking and finance for the past 9 years. I currently work full time at Grant County Bank as the Trust Services assistant. But the highlight of each of my working weeks is when I get to teach youth dance classes in ballet, jazz & tap to ages 3 and up two nights a week. Teaching these classes is what inspired me to pursue my degree in Elementary Education. I am definitely the type of person that loves to be busy, and I truly feel the most efficient and happy when I am busy. But, I didn’t think that I could work full time, take classes, go to internships, and teach dance classes, all while taking care of a newborn and a toddler, so something had to give! Ha ha ha. So, I will be finishing my time at the bank once our little one arrives in October. It is sure to be a busy and memorable semester, but I am up for the challenge. I am in my last semester of courses prior to student teaching and am very excited to be getting closer to starting this new chapter of my life.
I wish everyone a wonderful semester, and look forward to blogging with you all.
Hi Jackie, it is great to "see" you again this semester!! Have a good year!!
DeleteJackie, it is good to see that you are from my area. Ark City not very from away from where I live. It sounds like you have a very busy and exciting life. Good luck in the class and the new baby!
DeleteHi Jackie! It is good to "see" another Western Kansas student on here. I moved back to Scott City a little over 2 years ago. I grew up in Scott and used to spend a lot of time in Ulysses during my school years. Do you happen to know the Metcalf's and/or Wilbourn's?
DeleteMy name is Dan Rogers this is my 3rd year at FHSU, 5th year altogether. I am 22 years old and am from Selden Kansas. I played 2 years of football at Garden City Community College and am now an assistant coach at Victoria Middle and High school. I thoroughly enjoy teaching my knowledge to them and am excited to get in the classroom eventually. In my spare time I hang out with my dog Thor and play the drums whenever I can. Im ready for this semester even though I know it will be busy..its great to meet all of you!
ReplyDeleteHello Don. It is nice to meet you. I am impressed that you are only 22 and already have so much college completed! I think it is great that you coach and I commend you for that. Everyone seems to coach from the stands and it takes a good person to put up the politics that seem to go along with small town coaching. Good luck in class and on the football field.
DeleteMy name is Matraca Forell and I am a senior at FHSU. I am originally from Kensington, Kansas. I graduated Thunder Ridge High in May of 2009. I then moved to Hays, Kansas to begin college in August. I lived in Hays for three years. This may I decided to take on a different challenge in my life and move to Smith Center, Kansas to complete my senior year online. I am thrilled to be able to be closer to my family and complete my student teaching in a small loving community.
ReplyDeleteMy hobbies include teaching my puppy to coon hunt. I have recently had the privilege to own a coonhound named Split. I must say it has been a learning experience. Last winter should have been his first winter hunting, however he was hit by a car and broke his leg. So we are extremely excited for this winter to get him out and see what kind of hunter he is. I also enjoy a new hobby of raising goats. My boyfriend Dustin and his family have been raising boar goats (meat goats) for over 25 years and have happily added me into the family of raising goats. It is a wonderful experience having kids twice a year and watching them grow, then selling them to others. Next year we plan to have several goats compete in county fairs.
I also enjoy ridding my horse Buster whenever I can. My family has always had a passion for the outdoors. My dad competes in USTRC ropings and my boyfriend competes in local ranch rodeos. In high school I competed in local horse shows doing barrels and poles. Now I enjoy trial rids and helping my dad and Dustin in any way I can. I hope someday I can show my future students how to have compassion for animals.
Hello everyone! My name is Nate Thompson. I am a senior at FHSU and should complete my bachelors in secondary business education in the Spring. I am from and currently live in Sedan, Kansas which is in the southeastern corner of Kansas. At this time I am completing my degree completely virtual while working a full time job as a computer tech. Good luck to everyone this semester!
ReplyDeleteHey Nate! Glad to share another class with you. Good luck as always.
DeleteStacie, I think you are in every one of my classes this semester.
DeleteHello, My name is Mary Plott; I live in Salina, Ks. and have been married for 24 years. We have 2 boys, ages 23 & 20, and one girl age 13. Our oldest son is training to be a manager at Tradehome Shoes and loves what he does. Our 20 year old is in Australia studying Economics and will be back in November. Our daughter is in 8th grade and plays volleyball and is a cheerleader.
ReplyDeleteI graduated from Concordia, Ks. many many years ago and decided Cosmetology school was something my folks could afford to put me through, so I have done hair on and off since. For the last 9 years I have worked as a paraeducator working with learning disabled and Autistic middle school students. I love what I do and figured I might as well get paid better, so I decided to get my degree. This journey has taken me a long time, but I figure it will all be well worth it. My husband has wanted me to quit and focus only on college, but I love working with the students and teachers. I am blessed to be able to be in a variety of classrooms watching great teachers each da
Hello Mary. I too am just now getting my degree. I choose not to go to college after high school and while I know I should have a part of me is thankful because I would not have chosen this field (ECU). I would have missed out on working with small children. I look forward to getting to know you through class.
DeleteHello! My name is Amy Kovacs and I was born and raised in Florida but now find myself in Hot Springs, SD. I have a Bachelor's degree in an unrelated field from the University of Florida, where I met my husband. He works at Wind Cave National Park and our twin girls start kindergarten this year. I enjoy reading, running, hiking, camping, and watching movies. In my past life (before kids), I enjoyed traveling the world and competing in triathlons. This is my last semester of classes before I student teach in the spring, and boy do I have a full course load! I can't wait to get back in the classroom for internships!
ReplyDeleteOh good! A familiar "face"!!! Hope you had a good summer Amy!
DeleteHey lady....I forgot to mention in our previous conversations over the last week that I did not make it to Sturgis this year. If I make it up there next year, I will definitely let you know!
DeleteHi Amy, I recognize you from other courses we have had together! This is also my final semester jam packed with courses! I just keep looking at the light of student teaching! We have something else in common as well I am a natural born Floridian! I am originally from south Florida. Hope you have a great semester!
DeleteHey everyone! My name is Kendra Lundgren, I am from Scott City, KS. I'm very excited to say this is my last semester before I student teach and I can hardly wait for it to fly by!! I have been working as a paraprofessional for the last seven years, five of which I worked in special education, and the last two I was a sign language interpreter for deaf children. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it all! I also stay very busy showing quarter horses and have a busy September with shows on three of the four weekends. I have an awesome boyfriend that is very supportive when I have my overwhelmed breakdowns and I couldn't be happier and more thankful for that :) I look forward to working with you all, good luck!! Oh, and Kevin is awesome! I had the pleasure of being in his class last spring.
ReplyDeleteKendra, we have a few things in common!! I'll be student teaching next semester as well and I also worked as a special education paraprofessional last year in my hometown of Jetmore.
DeleteBrandy, that's awesome!! I'm gonna keep your name around! haha Then I can hollar at you when I have questions or think I'm going to flip out next semester!!
DeleteKendra, it's great to see you in class again. Have a great semester!
DeleteKasey you too!!
DeleteHello everyone!! I am Michelle Avritt and I live in Sublette, Kansas. I hold a BS degree from KSU in Recreation and Parks Administration, but my experience has always been in youth development. I am the lucky mother one awesome 7 year old. I am working on completing my elementary education degree so that I can continue my passion of working with youth and still have time to be the mom that I want to be. Have a fantabulous semester everyone!!
ReplyDeleteHey Michelle!
DeleteGood luck this semester. I live in NE Kansas now, but I am originally from Elkhart! I love meeting people from SW Kansas.
Hello! My name is Natalie Briscoe. I am a 28 year old mother of 3 who lives in Montezuma, KS. I graduated from Missouri Southern State University in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting. I LOVE tax accounting, but the long hours are difficult on my family. So what could be as great as working in accounting... TEACHING accounting!
ReplyDeleteI am currently in my second year of teaching business classes (including accounting) at South Gray High School. I am completely the Transition 2 Teaching program and will be finished in the spring. I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching kids about my passion.
I also enjoy spending time in church activities, my husband, my children, South Gray Rebel athletics, and the St. Louis Cardinals.
I look forward to a busy, yet productive, semester!
Hi, Natalie! I'm into my second year with T2T as well. It's gone great for me in Ellis, and it sounds like you're doing well in Montezuma. Best of luck finishing up! We're almost done!

ReplyDeleteCongrats on student teaching next semester. I bet you are really excited for that.
DeleteHello, I am Robert Meyer and I am pursuing my education degree here at FHSU. I hopefully will be student teaching next fall. I left a career in automotive financing in the Spring of 2011 to finish my degree and do something I have a passion/desire for. I work as a substitute teacher and really enjoy being around the kids and teaching. That is why I'm here. I enjoy all aspects of sports and when I'm not playing them, I am officiating. I officiate football, basketball, baseball/softball. I am married with a young boy and girl. I have lived in Kansas since 1983 and specifically in Wellington since 1997. I look forward to all of my classes and learning much this year!
ReplyDeleteI totally understand pursuing a different path into teaching after doing other work--looks like we both started something new in 2011. Good luck to you!
DeleteMy name is Kyle Irvine. I am from Junction City, Kansas and this is my second semester at FHSU. I recently graduated from KSU with a degree in Kinesiology and I am now pursuing a degree in physical education. I enjoy playing sports, going to the lake, and attending sporting events. ReplyDeleteHi everyone,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Bonnie Saunders. I am from Wichita Kansas. I am almost done with my Elementary Ed. degree. Once I finish with this degree, I will teach Special Education on a wavier. I have a scholarship that paid for all my schooling, but I had to agree to work at any level that there is a need. I may be teaching high school or it may be elementary ed. I will then go on for my Master in Special Education. I have already graduated with a bachelors from Friends University. My husband thinks I am addicted to school...He may be right. Speaking of which I am married with one daughter who is 21. I don't have much free time, but when I do, I am with either my husband or my daughter.
Hello, Bonnie! Nice to see you again in one of my classes! It's funny that you say you are addicted to school, I think I am as well. It's great to hear you are going to teach Special Education. It's awesome that you received all of those scholarships. Good luck to you, we are almost done!

ReplyDeleteHello, my name is Shane Warren and I live in Hutchinson, KS. I graduated from FHSU in 2004 where I played baseball and received a B.S. in Human Health and Performance. After graduation I moved to Wichita, KS where I worked for the YMCA for 4 years. I then decided that working in sports recreation was not what I really wanted to do so I moved to Great Bend, KS where I coached baseball at Barton County Community College for 2 years. After coaching at the junior college level I decided that I wanted to coach and teach at the high school level where I could work with younger students. I now work at Hutchinson High School where I have been in charge of the In School Suspension Program and baseball coach for the last 2 years. I finally have found what I was meant to do and I am now working toward a Physical Education degree. Because of my previous degree I only needed 7 classes to achieve a Physical Education degree. I will be done with all my classes this semester and will be ready for student teaching in the spring.
ReplyDeleteAs far as my family and hobbies go I have been married for 5 years and have a 3 year old son named Creighton. I enjoy working out, hunting and camping at the lake. I hope everyone has a great semester and gets the chance to do what they truly enjoy.
My name is Kasey Konda. I live in Wichita, KS with my husband Kurt, our son Kameron is 5, and we are expecting a little girl, Karleigh, any day now. I am in the home stretch of my undergraduate degree here at FHSU, and I am getting so excited to finish. I hope everyone has a great semester!
ReplyDeleteNice meeting you thus far. I recognize many names from previous courses. There are 52 people in this class, however, so I look forward to hearing from others before the end of the week.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget to check out my office hours in BB so you can see where I will be.
Also, please please please read my instructions for blogging. Many of you are so used to BB Discussion boards and having to post a certain number of times. I DO NOT WANT that. Read my instructions. Splichal
My name is Stacie Smith. My original undergraduate degree is in Business Administration, however, after working in business for six years, I decided to make a career change. Therefore, I am currently a full-time student through FHSU’s virtual college in pursuit of a Bachelor of Science in Business Education - Business Teacher Licensure. This is my last semester of coursework followed by student teaching in the spring. I currently reside in Wichita with my husband and our dog.
ReplyDeleteHi all,
ReplyDeleteEveryone calls me Cat, I am 29 and have been happily married for 10 years. We have two incredible children Ashton (9) and Ava (6) a dog, cat, crested gecko, leopard gecko, cockatiel a Bunny and about a dozen fish. We are foster parents and have a wonderful 2 year old with us right now which has been an incredible journey. We live in Lawrence KS and it is the greatest city I have ever called home. I grew up on a farm in a little town called Oregon in North West Missouri.
I have been working towards my elementary education degree since I got my B.S in management back in 2008. I knew from day one that it was not what was going to make me happy and that I wanted to work with kids. I am now in my last semester before student teaching. Our son has some learning disabilities that has given me a crash course in language and reading difficulties. I hope to help other kids learn how to best deal with their learning issues while still staying proud of themselves.
With the craziness of school, Kids, animals and work I don’t really have much time for hobbies but when I do have time I love to play puzzle and word games on my sons DSI. I can’t wait to dive in and see how I can apply the information gained in this class in my soon to be classroom.
So glad you are going back to school to do what you truly love. I also have no time for hobbies because school has seemed to take over my life so all i do is work come home and do homework. In a few years I would love to foster a baby and/or toddler because I want to help children and it will help me become better prepared for children.
DeleteHello, my name is Elizabeth Cothran and I am currently a Senior at FHSU!! I am so excited to almost be done with school, I can't believe how fast it has gone by. I am a Para in an at-risk pre-k classroom in USD 259. I love working as a para because I get to make connections with what I am learning in school with what is going on in the classroom. I am not married and do not have children so of course I have a pet. I have a pit/chocolate lab named Marley who I treat as if he was my real son. I can't wait to see what this semester brings:)
ReplyDeleteHello, my name is John Keller. I grew up in St. Francis, KS. I have a BS in psychology from University of Nebraska Kearney. I have been working is schools since I finished college. I have been a para-educator and a school based case manager. I am hoping to begin my student teaching this spring.
ReplyDeleteHi! My name is Rashawna Colbary. I am 29 years old, married and I have two kids. My son is 10 years old and just started middle school. My daughter is 3 years old and today was her first day of preschool. I am currently working on my elementary education degree. I plan on student teaching in January. The past 6 years I have been a paraprofessional, however this year I decided to go to school full time and finish my degree. I hope everyone has a great semester!
ReplyDeleteHi Everyone, my name is Victoria Donnelly. I reside in Fairway, Kansas just out of Kansas City. I joined this program because I wanted to find my fourth, and final profession, in something that could fulfill my talents and skill set until retirement. For the first time in my life, while writing an introduction, I can no longer say my son lives with me. He moved to Lawrence last week to attend KU. It feels strange in the house without him. I live with my husband of twenty years and a 10 year old daughter named Sidney. We have a gaggle of pets: cats, turtles, fish, etc. It's terribly funny that I am in this course, because I have a 33 hr. Master's degree in, you guessed it, Educational Psychology. If I don't do exceptionally well in this class, then I'm a total failure. It's good to meet everyone, and I look forward to a great semester in reviewing this material.
ReplyDeleteHello everyone! My name is Amberly Gfeller and I am a senior now at FHSU. I plan to student teach in Hays this spring and I am really looking forward to it. I am originally from Winona Kansas which is a tiny town with a K-12 school with about 90 students. I graduated in class of eight kids and I really enjoyed receiving my education from such a small school. Eventually I hope to teach in a small school like this as well. I have two younger brothers who I am very close to just like the reset of my family. My dad is a farmer and owner of a gas station while my mom is a first and second grade teacher in Winona. She has been a huge influence on me and is probably the reason I can't wait to be a teacher! I look forward to Educational Psychology and can't wait to apply it to my internships this semester.
ReplyDeleteHey everyone, my name is Brandy Younker, a 21 year old senior majoring in Early Childhood Unified. I am a 2009 graduate from Jetmore. I moved back to Jetmore to live rent-free with my parents after my second year at Fort Hays to save money due to the fact that the rest of my major was online. I have two older brothers, Brad and Brian. Brad is a 28 year old engineer, who lives in Hays. Brian is a 25 year old, who works for the Land o’ Lakes Company in Dodge City. My dad is a district conservationist at the Hodgeman County Natural Resources Conservation service, while my mom works at the local pharmacy and cleans houses. I also have two black and white Shih Tzu puppies named Oreo and Tootsie who are basically my mom’s “new set of children” because all of her babies are grown up. Last year I worked as a special education paraprofessional for my hometown school but this year I chose to substitute instead due to the fact that my time is limited and I will be student teaching in the fall.
ReplyDeleteHi,my name is Kristi Fletcher. I am a senior here at FHSU. I am married to a military man and we have 2 children. Tyler (13) and Zoe (3). My son is in the gifted program and is very active in sports. He has competed in triathlons this summer and has made it to Ironkids Nationals in Des Moines on Sept 1. I stay home with my daughter who starts preschool in a few weeks and will be taking dance lessons. I spend the majority of my time running my kids around and doing school work. Previously to starting here at FHSU I was a para-educator for three years in my local school district.
ReplyDeleteMy name is Randy Robertson. I am a father of two, Jacob 9, and Chloe 5. I'm currently teaching Graphic Design 1-2, Publications 1-2 and Art Foundations 1-2 at the high school level. ReplyDeleteHi everyone. Excited to see that there are quite a few in the class. My name is Devin Renken. I moved back to my hometown (Downs, KS) a couple months ago along with my fiance, Jessica, and our 4 month old son, Bentley. I'm in my final year of school. It is my seventh year of school so I'm excited that I'm close to finishing. I'm a "jack of all trades, master of none." I have an AA in Graphic Design, a BA in Studio Art, and finishing my BS in Education. I'm also working on certification for Special Education as well. I have a wide variety of interests that include: hunting, fishing, MMA, carpentry, painting, and landscaping. I'm a Royals and Chiefs fan. I find it very interesting. Good luck everyone.
ReplyDeleteHello! My name is Sarah Otto and I'm from Mt. Hope, KS but now live in Hutchinson, KS - home of the Kansas State Fair - with my husband and daughters, ages 11 & 8. I work as a Title 1 aide in their school full time and am taking a little more than a full load this semester - so I will definitely be busy! If all goes well, I intend to do my student teaching next Fall. I hope to get a job teaching upper grades 4-6th.
ReplyDeleteHowdy,
ReplyDeleteMy birth name is Courtney Cheyenne Hart, but you can call me Courtney for short. :) I just took my 21st spin around the sun in August. After high school I spent two years in a community college where I acquired an Associate of Science Degree and an Associate of Arts Degree, this gave me the chance to discover what I wanted to further study and I transferred to FHSU. Also last year I received my Child Development Associates credential. I suppose I would be considered a ‘super senior’ since I spent two years figuring out what I wanted to do in community college, it was worth it. I am more ‘well rounded’ for it!! I am in love with going to school and am so grateful that the events in my life have allowed me to keep going via FHSU online classes. This is my fourth semester as a virtual student and it is growing on me, but I do miss personal contact. It will probably be about four years until I am ready to student teach.
I am from a place in the country between Carbondale and Overbrook, KS. Unofficially it is called "Camp Creek." Those of us who live in this area call it that because it is located next to a creek in Osage County called Camp Creek. Something new for me is that I got married this last June to my 'College Sweetheart.’ We live in Topeka, KS and hope to move to the country, probably after I graduate. I love to be outside and moving. If I could live by a lake I would be set for life!! Many of my family members have been in the Military – 4 were in the Army Guard, 1 was an Airman, 1 is in the Air Guard, and 1 is a Marine. I am very proud of them and give my thanks to anyone else who also has served.
Courtney.
Hello! My name is Emma Meier. I am from Hays and have lived here my whole life. I graduated from Hays High School in 2009. I am majoring in math education and will graduate in the spring. I hope to eventually get masters in either math or administration. My husband and I just celebrated our first wedding anniversary in the beginning of August. During the school year, I work as a substitute teacher and really enjoy it! I enjoy reading, gardening, and taking my boxer mix puppy, Daisy, on walks! I am looking forward to a great semester!
ReplyDeleteHello, my name is Darren Morawitz, and I'm originally from Hutchinson, KS. This is my seventh and final year. I'm majoring in Art Ed with an emphasis in painting. I pretty much go to school, work, and paint. I'm preparing myself to join the "real" world next spring, but I'm thinking about getting my masters in order to put that off.
ReplyDeleteGood afternoon everyone. I feel like I am starting to sound like a broken record because I have had so many of you in previous classes and have already introduced myself. Anyway, my name is Becky Rowton; but I prefer to be called Bec. I was born and raised in Scott City, Kansas and after graduation from high school I spent the next 32 years living in Wichita, Garden City, Emporia, Overland Park and then spent 12 years in Derby, Kansas. In July 2010, I moved back to Scott City to help take care of my mom after my dad passed away.
ReplyDeleteI already have a Bachelor of Science in Business but have wanted to obtain my elementary education degree for a long time, but my job required a lot of traveling and I was unable to work on my second degree. After moving back to Scott City, I was able to start working on my elementary education degree. I will be completing my student teaching in the fall of 2013. I was hoping to do my student teaching in the spring of 2013 but I decided to take the summer off which has made it impossible for me to begin my student teaching that soon.
I love being outdoors and my favorite activity is riding my Harley Davidson. I also enjoy camping, skiing, yard work, and basically anything that gets me outside. I also have a large variety of flowers in my yard and enjoy making arrangements to give to my mom and friends. If I get stuck inside due to nasty weather, my favorite hobbies/activities are baking and cooking.
I do not have any children of my own even though I always wanted to. My experience with children includes spending time with (and spoiling) my nieces and nephews and now my 16 great nieces and nephews. I also started babysitting in grade school and continue to do so to this day. Over the last two years I have spent considerable time with elementary students during my observation coursework and my reading and language arts and mathematics methods internships. I have been involved in Big Brothers/Big Sisters in the past and I am considering participating again. I have also helped a friend in her daycare center since I moved back to Scott City.
I am looking forward to a great semester and getting to know everyone!
Becky
Hi Becky!!!! Glad to see you. And yes, many of us already know and love you :)
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Matthew Railsback. I am a Senior at FHSU majoring in Agricultural Education. I am originally from a small town in eastern Kansas just north of Emporia. I have lived on a farm my whole life and have raised many different types of animals. I plan on owning a farm when I finish school.
I look forward to learning a lot in this class this semester and I hope everyone has a wonderful semester!
Matt
Hi all, my name is Libby Heilbrun. My husband and I currently live in Andover, Ks with our children who range from a high school freshman to a 3rd grader. At some point we have managed to acquire 3 dogs - Reggie, the German Sheppard, Kirby, the yellow "lap"rador, and Bella Bad Dog, the boxer mix, as well as two cats Meow and Jessie. I see a lot of familiar "faces" in this class! And I know a lot of you are getting close just like I am. I am soooo close to finishing my ECU degree - just this semester and next before student teaching! After this degree, I plan on completing a Masters - in what? I'm not quite sure yet, but it'll come to me. I'm currently working as the Director for a Preschool/Child Care center in downtown Wichita. I am looking forward to this class and hope to put the ideas into practice in my center.

ReplyDeleteHi, I'm Alyssa Dawson, a 26-year-old secondary English teacher living and teaching in Ellis, KS. I am taking this class as part of the Transition to Teaching Program at FHSU, and will finish the program this spring. I am originally from Macksville, Kansas. I graduated with a BA in English and a BA in Mass Communications: Journalism from Sterling College in 2008. Shortly after graduating, I married my husband, Justin. We then went to Manhattan where I taught as a GTA and got my MA in English from K-State in 2010. I taught another year as an instructor there before applying for HS teaching jobs using an alternate licensure program. This is my fifth year teaching, so I may refer to some of my teaching experience in the discussions for this class; I hope this clears up any confusion!
ReplyDeleteHello! My name Sara Dreiling and am a senior this year! This is my last semester of classes before I student teach in the spring. I am so excited and know it will all go by fast!
ReplyDeleteI am originally from Great Bend. I attended Barton Community College for my freshman year of college. I transferred to FHSU and attended on-campus classes for my sophomore and junior years. I just moved to Wichita this summer, so I will be finishing up all online. I'm a little nervous about being all online so wish me luck!
One of my hobbies includes trying new recipes from the Pinterest website that I spend so much time on. I haven't had much of passion to cook before, but I have found so many easy recipes to try that my opinion of cooking has changed a lot. Another one of my hobbies is being outside with my dog. She is a chocolate lab and one and half years old. She has a ton of energy and I love having her around.
Hope everyone has a great semester!
Hello! My name is Sandi Wheeler, and I live in the far southwest corner of Kansas in the city of Liberal. This is my tenth year in education. I moved to Kansas after eight years of teaching social studies and language arts in Texas. I graduated with a BA in Mass Communications from Northwestern Oklahoma State University and an MA in Educational Leadership from Lamar University. I am certified in ELA 8-12, Social Studies 8-12, ESL EC-12, Health EC-12, and as a Principal in Texas. I am also certified in ELA 5-12, Speech/Theater/Debate, and Journalism in Oklahoma. However, the extent of my certifications did not reach Kansas, so I am, once again, hitting the books in order to obtain licensure. I currently work as a technology coach at South Middle School, West Middle School, and Liberal High School. When I am not working (which is rarely) I am spending time with my husband and my four year old son who will be starting his first season of flag football soon. We also raise show pigs and spend much of our time working in the pig barns and taking our son to livestock shows.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh. Why didn't your Texas and Oklahoma licenses carry over to Kansas? That's kind of scary. When I was in occupational therapy, all I had to do to get a Tennessee license was pay some money and provide documentation of my Kansas license and certification. I feel so bad for you.
DeleteMy bachelor's degree is is Mass Communications, and I obtained my original certification in Oklahoma through alternative means. Kansas only recognizes its own "Transition to Teach" program and no alternative programs from other states. Even though my master's degree is in education, the state department deems it necessary that I obtain further education within the state of Kansas. It is what it is!
DeleteI somehow missed the Blog assignment :( Anyways, hello everyone! My name is LaDonna Lewman and I am from Atchison, KS! I am working towards a bachelor's in Elementary Education and will be student teaching in two short semesters from now! I currently work as a lead teacher/assistant director at a nursery/pre-school program in Atchison and love it! I am very excited to be working with all of you this semester! Best of luck!!
ReplyDeleteHello, my name is Bill Baird, I graduated from Central State University in Edmond, OK with a BS in PE in 1987 (25 years ago). I was a Field Artillery Officer in the Army for five years after college, then a Pharmaceutical Sales rep and Sales Manager for Airborne Express for several years. I played college basketball and started a youth basketball skill development program once my own kids showed an interest in the game. This led me into coaching MAYB, AAU and finally High School Basketball. Currently, I am the Girls basketball coach at Liberal High as well as a PE teacher and girl’s strength & conditioning instructor. Teaching, playing and coaching the game has been my first love ever since I can remember. This is my 2nd year of teaching and I’m having a blast. I just found got news last week that I passed the PLT so this class is my last requirement in the T2T program. Have a great semester.
DeleteHi my name is Katherine Miller, but I go by Kate or Katie. I am a graduate of Emporia State University (Go Hornets!), after receiving my BFA I started adding a masters degree in instructional design and technology. During this time I Worked for a school and realized I wanted to teach. I started adding my elementary education degree with FHSU. A job came open last year and I now find myself an elementary school art teacher adding my education degree using the T2T program at FHSU. I adore my job, but I'm staying very busy and looking for a balance with my job, school, and private life.
