This is your LAST blog for Ed Psych. It is worth 30 pts and will be for Weeks 13,14,15.
Due date: December 2.
Toward the end of each semester, I typically like to get some feedback from students in regard to the course.
The information you share will in no way affect your grade. That said, keep in mind that every other member of the class will be able to see your comments.
I am constantly looking for ways to improve delivery. I am considering text messages for important due dates, etc. I am also considering apps for certain components of the class so that you can complete assignments directly from your mobile device. I have also looked at having you "record" your assignments in some sort of voice thread so that you do not need to be next to your computer to complete an assignment. I also thought of creating the entire course in a googledocument so that you could access it from your mobile device and receive notifications every time something changed. Do you like Blogger? Do you like GoogleDocs? Learning today has changed dramatically. Sitting down and listening to a lecture is out. What would you like to see in place of that?
I welcome any comments regarding delivery and the class as a whole. What would make the learning more convenient for you? This course is online. What would make the learning more valuable to you? Please provide me with some feedback, even if it seems "over the top" so to speak.
Thank you. Splichal

Week 12 Blog - ends November 11
The Praxis exam includes numerous key terms, events, rulings, principles, etc. Most of this is "recall" of information on your part. Take a look at the Praxis II prep book sample questions and you will see what I mean. In this blog, lets make a LIST of items you will need to know. I will start and each person in the class needs to provide ONE item that we need to know for the exam. There is no need to write about the items in a long discussion. Simply list your name and the item we need to know.

Swiss psychiatrist, Carl Jung, said that individuals can only gain a psychological advantage by rigorous self-examination and self-knowledge that leads to the unconscious experience. For teachers, what does this mean?

WEEK 8 Blog - due October 14
I have loved reading your thoughts on the blog topics. Some of you have a very good understanding of what the psychology of education is all about.
This blog is a little different.
I would like you to explain the earliest memory you have of school. Mine was the first day that my mom dropped me off in my Kindergarten classroom. The teacher had me find my name on the board. I pointed it out and then turned around to find that my mother was gone. I cried and cried. This is the earliest memory I have about school. What is yours?

Week 5 - Sept 17 to Sept 23
The focus of this blog will be the Praxis II preparation text.
Under the chapter "Preparing for the content of the plt" there is a subheading called: Students as Learners.
Under that subheading is another sub category called "Student Learning." (the reason I put all of this is because some of you have a different edition of the text and the page numbers don't coincide)
Read those pages. It starts with the topic of ADD and ends with the topic of Visual Learner.
Provide an instructional strategy for dealing with a student who exhibits ONE of the Student Learning factors.
By the time we reach the end of the blog, we should have numerous strategies for each of the issues due to the larger number of students in this class. Email me if you have questions. klsplichal@fhsu.edu
Thanks, Splichal

Week 3 Blog
Hello Everyone,
This post starts the week 3 blogging. Many of you have been doing an excellent job. Thank you. I would like to remind you once again my instructions for blogging. Please review them.
Week 3: After analysis of Urie Bronfenbrenner's Bioecological Model of Human Development, describe what happens when one or more components of the Mesosystem breaks down. Careful synthesis of the pages following Bronfenbrenner's model should help. Namely, Family, Peers, and Teachers.
Providing "examples" always helps fortify your responses.
Thanks, Splichal

Week 2 blogging
Ed Psych:
Abraham Maslow said the following in his book called Toward a Psychology of Being,
Abraham Maslow said the following in his book called Toward a Psychology of Being,
"Clearly what will be
called personality problems depends on who is doing the calling. The slave owner? The dictator? The patriarchal father? The husband who wants his wife to remain a
child? It seems quite clear that
personality problems may sometimes be loud protests against the crushing of
one’s psychological bones, of one’s true inner nature. What is sick then is not to protest while
this crime is being committed. And I am
sorry to report my impression that most people do not protest under such treatment. They take it and pay years later, in neurotic
and psychosomatic symptoms of various kinds, or perhaps in some cases never
become aware that they are sick, that they have missed true happiness, true
fulfillment of promise, a rich emotional life, and a serene, fruitful old age,
that they have never known how wonderful it is to be creative, to react
aesthetically, to find life thrilling."
What the heck is he talking about? Please explain YOUR thoughts. Splichal
